Mark Brennan has named his Scotland U20 squad for their upcoming fixtures against Ireland and England Community Knights
Scotland U20 Head Coach Mark Brennan was able to name his first squad in since 2019, with the team making their return to competition against Ireland at Dalkeith Rugby Club on September 4th, KO 12:00. Entry for the game is free, and Mark is hoping that his team will show the competitive grit that earned them a draw against England Community Knights in their last fixture together.
It has been really evident in our last few sessions that the guys have been keen to get back out and represent Scotland, and see what that brings after such a long time out. The big positive has been getting people back together again in the camp.
We want to be competitive, but it’ll be a good benchmark to see where we are ahead of the European Championships next year. We’ve got a lot of U20 debuts this year, with 16 getting their first cap at this level.
A few of the lads have come straight through the U16s pathway, which is a real testament to the work that Steve Beaty and Mark Hennessy have been doing with the team.
We’ve played Ireland twice in my time as coach, won one and lost one, so we know it’ll be competitive and they’ll bring a lot of physicality. Our last game against England two years ago was a draw, so we’re hoping that will be a competitive game.
We’re mainly focusing on ourselves though to be honest, it’s difficult to see where other teams are having not played, the main focus is to get out there and see where we’re at.
The last team I picked was nearly two years ago, so we haven’t had the game week buzz for a while! It’s just great for everyone to be out there enjoying sport again.
