About a half century of former Scotland Rugby League Students players and management will be gathering in Edinburgh and moving on to Newcastle from 14th – 16th October for a much anticipated reunion.
It was a positive idea that came about during the first COVID lockdown, when former Scotland Students Rugby League players gradually set up a WhatsApp group, reminiscing about past tours and triumphs. The reunion was originally set for 2021, to coincide with the Rugby League World Cup. However, thwarted by the World Cup’s delay until this year, the former Students were determined the reunion would go ahead, particularly after a turbulent few years, brought even closer to home by the passing of the long serving, much loved, admired and respected Students physio and strapper, Vic Semple.
Scotland student players and managers spanning across the decades and from as early as the late 1980s, when Scotland Student Rugby League was originally formed, are coming together from across the UK and with members flying in from overseas. Those that still can! will be dusting off their boots for a game of ‘exhibition’ touch rugby League on the Saturday at Peffermill, Edinburgh, followed by a formal dinner in the evening. The Dinner will be honouring Dr Mal Reid, the original founder of Rugby League in Scotland via the Scotland Students and John Risman, founding President of Scotland Rugby League.
The weekend culminates with a trip to Newcastle to cheer on Scotland Rugby League against Italy in the Rugby League World Cup on Saturday 16th October.
Kevin Rudd, a former long serving member of Scotland Students, Scotland Rugby League, European and International Rugby League, would love to hear from other former Scotland student players and management, that would like to get involved: Kevin.rudd23@gmail.com or 07720 805834.
